Imbolc/St. Brigid Day

Imbolc is a Gaelic festival highlighting winter and sunlight, and celebrates the change of seasons. It is a fire festival where bonfires or candles are lit to honor the fertility goddess Brigid.

For Christians it is the feast day of Saint Brigid, known for feeding the poor and healing the sick. Crosses are made from reeds and then hung in people's homes, where they are believed to bring good luck.

Both are celebrated on February 1st, which is about halfway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox.
