Walpurgis Night

Walpurgis Night is celebrated on April 30. In Sweden typical holiday activities include the singing of traditional spring folk songs and the lighting of bonfires. In Germany the holiday is celebrated by dressing in costumes, playing pranks on people, and making loud noises meant to keep evil at bay. Many people also hang blessed sprigs of foliage from houses to ward off evil spirits, or they leave pieces of bread spread with butter and honey as offerings for phantom hounds.
